Note: (The Cleburn County Times, Herber Springs AR - June 29, 1988) Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. on Monday, June 27 at the Olmstead Chapel for Opie B. Matthews of Bose Bud who died in Little Rock on Friday, June 24, 1988 at the age of 80. The son of the late John Walter and Martha Ellen Davis Matthews, he was born July 4, 1907 in Romance, Arkansas. Mr. Matthews was a retired heavy equipment mechanic. His religious belief was that of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruby Ellen (Strickland) Matthews; six sons, Carl Matthews of El Paso, Texas; Marvin Matthews of Quitman; John Matthews and Benny Matthews both of Greers Ferry; James Matthews of Rose Bud and Danny Matthews of Heber Springs; five daughters, Phyllis McKay of Romance, Jean Gardner of Little Rock, Virgie Kennedy of Heber Springs; Patsy Johnson of Greenbrier and Mary Everett of Conway; three nephews, Gerald Rogers, Wayne Rogers and Bobby Matthews all of Searcy; 24 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends. Rev. Roy Lee officiated at the final tribute. Interment was in the Romance Cemetery by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Pallbearers were grandsons, Frankie Gardner, Marty Matthews, Jerry Everett, Billy Garner, Mark Kennedy, Rick McKay.
